Tools longer than 7cm — screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers — cannot go in the cabin and must be checked. Drills and drill bits, saws, hammers and crowbars are barred from the cabin regardless of length. Small tools under 7cm, tape measures and hex keys may be carried on, but the screening officer has the final say, so anything borderline is safer checked. When checking them, cover edges and points so they do not damage the rest of your baggage.
Why the rule is written this way
It is classified as Checked baggage only because in a sealed cabin full of passengers, pressure changes make this item more dangerous than it is in the hold.
Check it in, and wrap it in a zip-lock bag as well so nothing else in the suitcase is ruined if it leaks or breaks.
