⛳ Can you bring Golf bag / clubs on a plane?
Checked only (declare as special baggage)
As of 2026-08-21
The rule in detail
Golf clubs count as something that can be swung at a person, so they are barred from the cabin and may only be checked. A golf bag is oversized special baggage: it goes in at the outsize counter rather than the normal belt, and some airlines only hold space for it if you declare it when booking. Overweight fees add up quickly, so moving shoes and clothing into another bag is usually cheaper than paying for the extra kilos.
Why the rule is written this way
It is classified as Checked baggage only because in a sealed cabin full of passengers, pressure changes make this item more dangerous than it is in the hold.
Check it in, and wrap it in a zip-lock bag as well so nothing else in the suitcase is ruined if it leaks or breaks.
What actually happens at the airport
- Check-in desk — this is the point of no return for your suitcase. Anything that may only travel in the cabin cannot be retrieved after this step.
- Security screening — if the X-ray flags a shape, the bag is opened. Most problem items are caught here.
- Extra check at the gate — on some routes there is one more inspection.
Confiscated items are rarely returned. If you are unsure, confirm the specification before you leave home.
A power bank or lighter left in the bag turns the whole bag into a prohibited checked item
