💨 Can you bring Aerosol spray (mist / sun spray) on a plane?

Checked baggage recommended (500ml or less each)

The rule in detail

Personal-care mist, deodorant and hairspray may be checked in containers of 500ml or less, up to 2kg (2L) in total per person. In the cabin, only containers of 100ml or less are allowed. Pepper spray and industrial lacquer are banned outright.

Why the rule is written this way

It is classified as Checked baggage only because in a sealed cabin full of passengers, pressure changes make this item more dangerous than it is in the hold.

Check it in, and wrap it in a zip-lock bag as well so nothing else in the suitcase is ruined if it leaks or breaks.

What actually happens at the airport

  1. Check-in desk — this is the point of no return for your suitcase. Anything that may only travel in the cabin cannot be retrieved after this step.
  2. Security screening — if the X-ray flags a shape, the bag is opened. Most problem items are caught here.
  3. Extra check at the gate — on some routes there is one more inspection.

Confiscated items are rarely returned. If you are unsure, confirm the specification before you leave home.

💡 Worth knowing

The cap or safety lock must be in place so it cannot discharge accidentally
