The tent fabric on its own could go in the cabin, but the pegs and poles packed with it cannot — they are pointed or usable as a blunt weapon. So camping gear goes into checked baggage as one lot. Fuels such as butane and white gas cannot be checked either and have to be bought locally; a stove body passes only if the fuel is fully drained and no gas smell remains. Hatchets and saws are checked-only as well.

It is classified as Checked baggage only because in a sealed cabin full of passengers, pressure changes make this item more dangerous than it is in the hold.
Check it in, and wrap it in a zip-lock bag as well so nothing else in the suitcase is ruined if it leaks or breaks.
